After three failed attempts, this was the beginning of everything. Summer of 2020, during severe lockdown, no more university classes. I had recently stopped developing YPSILON after two years of near full-time dedication, and I finally felt confident enough in Java to give Android another try.
I wanted to start simple. I grabbed Google’s documentation, got a few pages in, and then switched to YouTube tutorials. Soon enough, I wanted to fly solo: tutorials were informative but not particularly rewarding. Instagram was big on memes about the political compass around that time, and I thought a simple question game would be easy enough to write. As with anything you do for the first time, it wasn’t.
But hey, it was honest work and I learned a lot. The app even had moderate moments of glory after I experimented with A/B testing Play Store listings during election periods, which taught me a lot about the foundations of ASO and marketing. Oh, and it was also my first app to reach the Top 3 for free games in the Spanish Play Store!
